Fiona Memed

The O.G Reach & Belong Baddie Who Started It All

Fiona is an enthusiastic person whose hard-work and tenacity has made Reach and Belong a thriving reality. Her background is in media, and she has worked as everything from a magazine and book editor to a television producer

She has a Bachelor of Business – Communications, a Certificate IV in Disability, and is currently studying for her Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Outside of work, Fiona enjoys classical ballet, scrapbooking, reading, watching films, and spending time with her family

Fiona’s priority here at Reach and Belong is that the participants’ needs and goals are always first and foremost. She wants you to know that as a participant you will make friends, be part of a group, and, most importantly, have fun.

Kayla

The GOAT (greatest of all time)

Kayla is one of our multi-talented instructors who helps run a diverse range of programs at Reach & Belong. After leaving her previous job, she found the motivation to pursue a career that aligns with her deep passion.

In her spare time, Kayla enjoys attending music concerts, watching horror movies, spending time with her family, partner and fur babies.

By working at Reach & Belong, Kayla aspires to create a positive impact and inspire individuals to reach their full potential.

Danielle

Cooking & Programs Manager Girl-boss

Danielle is our resident ‘master chef,’ running our cooking programs with her signature care and patience and yielding delectable results for all who participate! Danielle is also instrumental in bringing many other programs to life. Her happy personality is contagious.

Danielle has been part of the hospitality industry since she was 15 years old and has trained in England, Europe and Australia. After working as a secretary and then studying psychology, Danielle started a training organisation with her husband and has stayed in that industry ever since, mainly training hospitality. She finds the hospitality industry exciting and loves the forever changing landscape

In her spare time, Danielle loves gardening, walking, reading, socialising…basically anything except cooking! She saves that expertise for us. Danielle is also currently completing her Bachelor of Education.

Danielle wants future participants to just get out there, take a leap of faith, have loads of fun and just have a go.

Sue

Instructor Extraordinaire

Sue was always a softly spoken person, until she became a Cub Scout Leader and quickly learned she would need to speak louder to be heard among the Scouts!  Now, she can easily support and teach in a noisy kitchen or busy sewing group.

Sue has a Bachelor of Education, Graduate Diploma in Technology Studies, Graduate Certificate in Disability Studies, Certificate IV in Disability and is currently studying a Masters in Disability Policy.

Sue loves art and craft of all types, especially patchwork and embroidery (however freely admits that knitting bamboozles her!).  She has worked in disability support for over 30 years and loves the passion Reach & Belong brings to individual person-centred planning.

Sian

Queen of Art and Lead Instructor

Sian is creative, kind, and personable, as well as mindful of others’ experiences and perspectives, and consistently seeks to keep things fun.
Over lockdown, Sian was taught to crochet by her Mum, and she is interested in multiple arts and crafts such as creating her own clothes, video and projection, sculpting and photography, and also keeps up to date with politics and world events.
Sian graduated from Monash Uni in 2019 with a double degree in Arts and Fine Arts, majoring in Human Rights and Video and Projection.
Sian’s favourite thing about Reach & Belong is the community that’s been created. She loves having the opportunity to create a positive experience for everyone, and to facilitate a fun time each week.
Sian is one of our art instructors and says that even if you are not very interested in art or feel you don’t have many art skills, it is a meaningful experience and everyone learns from each other, so come along and give it a go!

Thomas

Golf Bro #1

Thomas is one of our talented golf instructors. His compassionate, caring and loud personality makes even the most relaxing of golf games engaging, and in his spare time he enjoys Nintendo games.
Thomas has his Certificate III in Aged care, and has just started working in aged care! Congratulations, Thomas!
Thomas’s favourite part of working at Reach & Belong is the opportunity to interact with such a wide variety of people with so many different and unique interests.
To anyone interested in participating in any Reach & Belong programs, Thomas advises that you just give it a go and have fun! His number one rule is to always try and have fun no matter what, and lives by the saying “if you ain’t laughin, you ain’t learnin”.

Scott

Golf Bro #2

Scott is a reliable and honest member of the team, and is unfailingly punctual, arriving to coach our Golf Program sometimes a whole hour early!

He has two adorable golden retrievers called Minnie and Ellie who get lots of walks and playtime, and love!!

Scott is a talented sportsman, playing a variety of sports such as football, tennis, basketball, and, of course, golf. He also loves video games, TV series such as Arrow and Supergirl, anime, and he has discovered a culinary enthusiasm through the Reach & Belong Cooking Program.

Scott has completed bike mechanics and automotive classes in high school as well as participated in a school-based apprenticeship known as ‘Second Bite’ which involved reclaiming as much food as possible from Aldi/Coles etc and passing it on to people in need.

He has Certificates 1 and 2 in Work, Education, and Sport, and has completed his Golf Coach training.

Scott’s favourite part of working at Reach & Belong is “being around amazing people with amazing personalities, teaching people with disabilities, and just having a good time”.

To potential Reach & Belong participants, Scott says “It’s all about the fun, give it a go!! We all get along and welcome anyone and everyone with a disability”.

Amber

A-Team all rounder

Amber has a friendly personality, and she loves sharing a smile and a laugh whenever possible.  Amber holds a degree in Finance/Accounting and is also a qualified Primary School teacher.  Whilst she has a knack for numbers, it’s working with people and seeing them evolve, that gives her the greatest sense of enjoyment.  Amber’s favourite thing about Reach & Belong is the supportive environment it creates for people to flourish as they discover new interests and passions.

Amber loves being outdoors, going for walks in nature, training in the gym, practising yoga – pretty much anything active!  Having lived and worked in 4 different continents, she is also an avid traveller. Her favourite place in the world is Croatia and the beautiful Dalmatian coastline.

To future participants, Amber would encourage them to “have a go, have a laugh, and enjoy meeting others in the same boat!”

Andrea

Master of All Trades

Andrea is an Independent Living Skills and SLES (School Leavers Employment Scheme) Instructor here at Reach and Belong, and her outgoing and personable nature has made her an invaluable part of the team!

Andrea recently completed her Certificate IV in Disability as well as training under Golf Australia to become a Disability Golf Instructor. Outside of work Andrea loves doing crafts and meeting new people, and is even part of a German Dance Group! We hope she can teach us some moves sometime!
Andrea loves the “adventurous and amazing” activities at Reach & Belong which provide lots of opportunities to learn, as well as the overall environment.
Andrea says it is important that our participants reach for their goals and dreams, and that they never give up.

Lauren

Yoga and Breath Work Baddie

Lauren has a very friendly, outgoing, and compassionate nature.  As an experienced Yoga and Breathwork practitioner, we are lucky to have Lauren sharing her magic with our participants.  Outside of Reach & Belong, you will find Lauren spending time in nature, travelling, catching up with friends and enjoying good food.

A dual UK/Australian citizen, she has worked in disability for most of her life and is even Forest School leader trained. Lauren LOVES animals and is currently pet sitting right across Melbourne.

Lauren’s favourite thing about working at Reach & Belong is the sense of community. She enjoys working alongside kind, caring, and supportive team members, as well as with the inspiring participants. Lauren loves to encourage all new potential participants to come as they are and be warmly welcomed in.

Phoebe

Social Media Girl

Phoebe is an outgoing student, currently studying a Double bachelor’s degree in marketing and media communications. With a passion for social media, specifically for business management, she is excited to be working with Reach & Belong to ensure as many members of the community have access to programs and services.

She has many skills in video editing, photography, social media management, marketing and communication, which help her in running the tech program as well as Reach & Belong’s podcast.

Phoebe’s favourite part of working at Reach & Belong is the dynamic nature of the programs, and how there are always new opportunities for everyone to try and really find their place in the world.

Sandy Jamieson

One Club Golf Dude

Sandy designed the One Club Golf Program and works with Reach & Belong at Golf Sessions. Having played golf since he was 12 years old, Sandy’s golfing career has taken him many places. After completing his PGA certification in 1995, he played professionally for a few years before beginning his coaching journey, even coaching at the Victorian Institute of Sport. In 2007 he moved overseas to coach players on tour before returning home in 2010 and entering the club golf world and finally beginning the One Club Golf Program.

The One Club Program aims to break down barriers and have those who have never played before on the course in 15 minutes and a confident golf player within an hour, which is a standout from other programs. The One Club Program aims to strip back golf rather than complicate it and aims to empower the players and help them find the parts of the game that they love.

Sandy says the most rewarding part of working with Reach & Belong is “the happiness you see on participants faces when they are playing a game they love”.

Peter

Dungeons and Dragons Master

Peter is a passionate gamer, with Dungeons and Dragons being his specialty. He is a tireless worker and uses his creative vision to inspire and encourage all players who join his tables at Dungeons and Dragons programs.

Peter was first introduced to Dungeons and Dragons during lockdown, when watching others playing the game “kept [him] sane, being at home all the time”. He began to play as soon as restrictions eased and hasn’t stopped since.

He loves sharing his passion for the game with everybody as “it is a game for everyone”. He encourages everyone to try play, as the community “doesn’t care about any sort of stereotypes, it’s as inclusive as possible. So come along, roll some dice, and see what happens!”

Anne

Sewing Expert

Along with her warm personality and infectious smile, Anne brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in all things crafts.

When Anne’s not running our sewing program, you will likely find her immersed in any number of craft activities – from photography, to scrapbooking, stamping, card making, beading, and more recently patchwork and embroidery. Multi-talented might just be her middle name.

Anne’s grandmother was a domestic science teacher, so between her and Anne’s mother, nothing was impossible to make.  This creative, can-do attitude (combined with some pretty nifty skills!) have no doubt shaped her love of crafts today.

Anne’s favourite thing about working at Reach & Belong is the friendly, team-oriented environment. She finds it very rewarding to see participants in the group sewing and learning new skills too.  For future participants, Anne would like you to know that sewing skills are both useful and rewarding.  The classes cover basic skills, but there is always scope for more advanced work too if that’s what you are interested in!

Leanne

Queen of the Office

One of our most recent R&B recruits, is the Admin whiz herself, Leanne.
Already bringing her big smile and friendly nature to the team, she is looking forward to getting amongst the Reach & Belong magic. When Leanne isn’t working, you will find her sewing, or spending time with her adorable 1 year old grandson.
Speaking of adorable, Leanne also has a King Charles Cavalier, named Louie, whom she enjoys taking for regular walks.

Macey

You may have seen Macey around in one of the many Reach & Belong programs that she helps out in.  She brings not only her positive energy, but also a variety of experience from her previous work experience as a tutor, teacher’s assistant, kindergarten educator, and swimming instructor.
Outside of work, Macey loves dancing, hair & makeup, and being out in nature.  Her favourite thing about working with Reach & Belong is building relationships with others and making a positive impact on the participants that she works with.

Adam

Ever positive and always up for a laugh, meet Adam, our friendly Muso! His main passions are singing and playing guitar – much to the delight of our Reach & Belong participants.  When he’s not strumming a tune, you’ll find him practising martial arts, gaming, or playing chess.
Adam studied music at Box Hill Institute for 3 years, and that combined with his previous work experience as an assistant martial arts instructor, make him a valuable part of the team. He loves bringing joy to the participants and imparting his love of music.
Adam feels that working with Reach & Belong is by far the most rewarding (and fun!) job he’s ever had and loves welcoming music lovers of all levels into the programs.
